30, 31 July, 1 & 2 August 2019, 10.00-4.00pm

Tutor: Rob White

Cost: £360. Includes all materials.

Work with experienced tutor Rob White to look at artists who have used the Jigsaw Woodcut technique, such as Grayson Perry, Tom Hammick, Gillian Ayres and Edvard Munch. Discuss and decide how to make a two block jigsaw print that will be made and printed across this 4 day course.

Day 1

You will look at examples of woodcut/jigsaw woodcut. You will then produce your first block, a line block holding the detail of the image, learning how to transfer the image to the wood and how to handle and use the cutting tools. You will take a proof of this block on day one.

Day 2

You will work on the second block, a jigsawed block that fits under the line block. Learn how to trace and transfer the drawing over onto a second block that will be cut up and can be printed in multiple colours. You will also mix the colours for the printing of the block the next day.

Day 3

You will print the jigsawed block in different colours printing 4-6 prints so that you have a small edition to take away will you on the final day.

Day 4

You will print the key line block on your colour jigsaw prints from day 3, to pull the image together. There will be a group discussion about all the final works and how you can use the technique in your work in the future.
